Attala County School District
Nestled Along The Historic Natchez Trace Parkway
In the heart of Mississippi, sits Attala County. Attala features many historic sites, picturesque communities, and people who exemplify the true essence of Southern hospitality. The towns of Ethel, McCool, and Sallis, and the city of Kosciusko are all located in Attala County. Which is less than two hours from Mississippi’s capital city and approximately two and one-half hours from Alabama, Tennessee, and Arkansas. According to tradition, Attala County is named for Attala, a fictional Native American heroine from an early-19th-century novel by François-René de Chateaubriand.
Rich in history, the Attala County Courthouse, home of the Attala County School District Superintendent’s Office is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Volunteerism, citizenship, and neighborly friendliness flourish in this region. Visitors can take walking, bicycling, and driving tours to enjoy nature. Recreational outlets in the county consist of a variety of civic and social organizations. Hunting and fishing clubs, ball fields, and special events occur throughout the year.
